Lake James Family Campground

Location: Burke County, NC
Project: Campground/RV Park Expansion

LRM was contracted by the owner of Lake James Family Campground (LJFC) to assist in the expansion of the campground. The existing campground was serviced by individual wastewater systems, many of which had unknown locations. The owner had an adjoining parcel and wanted to evaluate the feasibility of permitting a new decentralized Large Subsurface Wastewater System. Upon completion of a preliminary soils evaluation, including Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity (ksat) measurements and a lateral flow assessment, it was determined that the adjoining parcel could accommodate a new wastewater system to serve the existing park and planned expansion. LRM teamed with an engineering firm and successfully permitted a ~29,000 gal/day subsurface drip irrigation system. This permit was the largest Engineered Option Permit issued in the State of North Carolina at the time of permitting.
