Bright Farms

Location: Henderson County, NC
Project: Hydroponic Greenhouse

LRM was contracted by Bright Farms to evaluate two sites in Western North Carolina during the planning stage of a project to develop a 280,000 Sq. Ft. Hydroponic Greenhouse. The client eventually settled on a Henderson County, NC parcel which had previously been a planned residential golf course development. During the previous development the site had been graded and filled for the driving range. LRM was able to identify several old sand traps, old irrigation and stormwater systems, and fortunately for the client, NATIVE SOIL, beneath a small portion of the property. The facility has 55 employees and generate less than 1,000 gal/day of wastewater as a byproduct of its greenhouse operation. LRM, along with a local consulting engineer, was able to permit a conventional drainfield for the standard wastewater generated by the employees and restrooms. The installation of the drainfield required detailed fill removal, based on a boring grid developed by LRM to identify fill depth for removal. The remaining wastewater generated by the greenhouse operation was permitted utilizing a surface drip irrigation system under NCDEQ 2t rules.
